Hypertension Zones: Understanding the Different Levels of High Blood Pressure


High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a common health concern that affects millions of people worldwide. It is a condition that can lead to serious health complications if left untreated, including heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Therefore, it is important to monitor your blood pressure regularly and understand the different hypertension zones.


Hypertension zones refer to the different levels of high blood pressure, ranging from normal to hypertensive crisis. Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is based on two numbers: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. Systolic pressure is the top number, which represents the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats. Diastolic pressure is the bottom number, which represents the pressure in your arteries when your heart is at rest between beats.


The following are the different hypertension zones and what they mean:


Normal Blood Pressure

A normal blood pressure reading is less than 120/80 mmHg. This means that your blood pressure is in a healthy range and you should continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep it that way.


Elevated Blood Pressure

An elevated blood pressure reading is between 120-129/80-89 mmHg. This means that you are at risk of developing hypertension and should make lifestyle changes, such as exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and reducing stress, to lower your blood pressure.


Stage 1 Hypertension

Stage 1 hypertension is between 130-139/90-99 mmHg. This means that you have high blood pressure and should take action to lower it. This may include lifestyle changes
